Conflict Management
A different slant – the mindset factor A one-day programme for Staff at all Levels in the Organisation
Conflict is as familiar to humanity as the changing seasons. And as is the case with the chill of winter, we can always do with less of it. Procedures to deal with conflict are constantly being developed, some more effective than others. What gives this approach a different slant is that it gets to the crux of the matter : Mindset.
Relationships : Relationships of whatever kind, are the product of the variation, change and difference, which separate the parts concerned.
This separation of parts is what makes the flow of energy possible. Where there is absolute ‘sameness’ no interaction can occur, which means no energy can flow. In terms of human activity, all relationships are based on the variation, change and difference, which separate the parties concerned, physically, intellectually, emotionally and/or spiritually.
Should the variation, change and difference, which separate the parties concerned, be either too much or two little the relationship becomes dysfunctional. In other words, should the parties concerned be either too ‘far apart’ or too ‘close together’, conflict in one form or another, is likely to ensue. A functional relationship is one in which the physical, intellectual, emotion al and spiritual variation, change and difference between parties are optimal. In other words, energy flow is ideal – value is added.
The benchmark : In terms of variation, change and difference, what is it that determines too much or too little? What actually determines whether the parties, which constitute a relationship are physically, intellectually, emotionally or spiritually too far apart or too close together? Mindset. Mindset (values, beliefs and assumptions) is the ultimate benchmark by which the magnitude of variation, change and difference is measured – evaluated.
