Matching Pay to Performance

The course for HR managers and specialists in 2010

The objectives of the course

HR practitioners are today expected to present all of their recommendations with a depth evaluation of the financial consequences of implementation.

They are also being called upon to solve manpower resourcing and organizational development problems, to assist line managers to manage performance, to develop training programmes for identified employees and to fulfill a range of other functions in the organization – all of which have financial consequences for the organization.

This course will assist HR executives and managers to conceptualize innovative pay solutions, and then assess and present the cost benefit trade-off in financial terms.

The course draws extensively on the PECS HR Professional Subscription Library and the HR Practitioners Handbook, explaining and interpreting the trends in market practice in all important areas.

Attendance will help experienced participants to remain at the leading edge of their profession, and assist inexperienced participants to raise the level of their contribution to their employers in this field.

Time-frame and duration

The course is run at quarterly intervals over four successive days.

Participants meet at a local venue from 8:30am to 4:30pm on each day.

The programme is divided typically into a number of separate ‘sessions’. In each session, the facilitator makes a formal presentation on the market trends and practical issues confronting practitioners, and will introduce the case studies. Interactive discussion is encouraged.

Size of groups

Participation is limited to ten in each course – to ensure a participative environment.

The facilitator

The discussions in 2010 will be facilitated by one of our leading consultants in this field, namely –

Mr. Deon Thomson (67): He holds the following professional qualifications: B. Com (Wits), B.Com.(Hons.)(Pta), LL.B. (Unisa), C.A.(S.A.), H.Dip. Tax Law (Wits). He is the chief contributing author to our HR Professional Subscription Library. Deon has a financial background but has worked with our remuneration consulting group for over twenty years. As he explains it, all HR policies and decisions have financial implications. He will introduce participants to the techniques that he has developed to cost-justify policy changes and the rationalization of human resources within complex organization structures.
